About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in transit bus driving.
• Class B commercial driver's license (CDL), with passenger and air brakes endorsements; proof of a valid Virginia Commercial Driver's License with these endorsements is required.
• Completion of a training program.
• Must meet hearing and vision requirements.
• Acceptable DMV record and liability insurance.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with strong organizational and computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform the duties of a transit bus operator in a typical Virginia climate.
• Ability to work with a team, follow directions, and remain calm under stressful conditions.
• Must be courteous, detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, and trustworthy.
• Use of a personal vehicle or LU vehicle is required for travel while performing essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

• Experience driving buses on fixed routes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive regular bus routes and chartered trips, transporting passengers between designated locations.
• Operate vehicles safely in varied conditions and follow established safety procedures, traffic laws, and state and federal transit regulations.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance, including checking tires, oil, and lights, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and presentable.
• Pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations and follow planned routes and schedules.
• Assist passengers with disabilities when boarding and exiting the bus.
• Interact with passengers professionally and courteously; answer questions about schedules, routes, and transfer points, and inform passengers of possible delays.
• Respond calmly to stressful situations, accidents, and traffic disruptions; report incidents to a central dispatcher and follow directions for alternate routes.
• Be available for school closings, delays, shutdowns, emergencies, severe-weather cleanup, Commencement, Orientation, Move-in, and other scheduled or unscheduled events.
• Perform snow removal tasks such as shoveling and salting when assigned.
• During the summer season, perform general tasks in Facilities Management Division departments as assigned, including Maintenance, Custodial, Design & Renovations, or Grounds.
• Dust, wipe, and polish windows, doors, handrails, and furniture; empty trash and recycling bins; and sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
• Perform duties of a Landscape Tech I.
• Report to work on time and complete duties assigned by the Director of Transit Department.
• Stay informed about relevant technologies, processes, products, services, and industry performance benchmarks.
• Work effectively as a team member and support Liberty University's mission.
