The Bus Operator transports passengers between locations, including on- and off-campus facilities, as well as on regular routes and chartered trips. Vehicles may range from cars and trucks to 60-foot articulated buses carrying more than 100 passengers. Operators drive safely in varied conditions, conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, and perform basic vehicle maintenance. During the summer season, when transit work slows or stops, operators may be assigned general tasks in other Facilities Management Division departments, including Maintenance, Custodial, Design & Renovations, or Grounds. The position requires working independently and exercising sound judgment and discretion. This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Bus Operators are essential personnel and must be available for school closings, delays, shutdowns, emergencies, severe-weather cleanup, and university events such as Commencement, Orientation, and Move-in. Scheduled or unscheduled work may be required as emergency needs arise. Duties may also include snow removal and tasks associated with custodial work and the Landscape Tech I role.
