About The Position

The Bus Operator drives a company-owned vehicle to pick up and discharge passengers on a specific route in a safe and professional manner. Operators may work fixed routes, demand response service, or trippers. Route schedules vary depending on the type of service. The position is responsible to the Operations Manager and routinely takes written and verbal day-to-day operating instructions from road supervisors and/or dispatchers. This position has no direct or indirect reports.

The role includes operating assigned METRO RTA vehicles, providing timely, safe, and efficient passenger transportation, collecting fares, and completing pre-trip inspections. Operators may also provide schedule information, monitor passenger counts when requested, complete incident or accident reports as needed, and assist with route training of bus operators. The listed duties describe the principal functions of the role and may not include every task that could reasonably be part of the work.

Requirements

• Must have a valid Ohio Driver's License.
• Must have no more than 2 points on the driving record.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Customer service experience is required.
• Must have a valid Temporary CDL Class B permit with Passenger Endorsement, General Knowledge, and Air Brakes sections.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement.
• Must be able to pass a D.O.T. physical examination.
• Must take and pass drug and/or alcohol tests in accordance with METRO's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Policy.

Responsibilities

• Operate all types of METRO RTA vehicles as assigned.
• Monitor passenger counts when requested by supervision.
• Provide optimum customer service while transporting passengers in a timely, safe, and efficient manner.
• Collect applicable fares, including money, tickets, passes, and transfers.
• Complete pre-trip inspections to ensure the coach is in safe condition.
• Assist passengers with schedule information when applicable.
• Complete incident and accident reports as needed.
• May assist with route training of bus operators.
