About The Position

The Extruder Operator sets up and maintains extrusion jobs to produce rolls of plastic for sale or use in production. Setup tasks include changing the die set, installing deckles, setting roller gaps, and filling the extruder with materials. The operator monitors and troubleshoots the extruder, oversees jobs through completion, changes rolls using a hoist, performs maintenance, and completes required equipment maintenance, job setup, and quality paperwork. The role also includes helping with other departmental tasks and following good manufacturing practices to ensure product safety. Work is performed in a climate-controlled environment, with exposure to high temperatures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Attention to detail.
• Dexterity and the ability to work quickly and accurately.
• Proficiency in English.
• Ability to lift 15–25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; lifts over 50 pounds require a team lift.
• Ability to perform frequent repetitive tasks with the upper extremities.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods on a concrete floor.
• Ability to correctly wear and use personal protective equipment, including long sleeves as required.
• Ability to frequently climb steps and/or ladders while working on elevated platforms.

Responsibilities

• Set up jobs on the extruder, including changing the die set, putting on deckles, setting roller gaps, and filling the extruder with materials.
• Monitor and troubleshoot problems with the extruder.
• Oversee each job that runs and ensure it is completed.
• Complete paperwork related to equipment maintenance, job setup, and quality standards.
• Change extruder rolls and use a hoist to lift and carry rolls to the skid.
• Perform maintenance activities on the extruder.
• Help with other tasks within the department.
• Follow good manufacturing practices to ensure product safety.
• Work independently and use sound technical judgment with limited technical direction from the manager.
