About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program.
• Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Clearance.
• Access to medications is limited to distributing medication to the nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN direction, including activities of daily living, vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry application, and specimen collection.
• Assist with daily patient and unit needs, such as responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and basic activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment while following infection control and safety protocols.
• Monitor patients and promptly report changes, concerns, or equipment malfunctions.
• Document care accurately and complete clerical duties as needed.
• Obtain and distribute supplies and equipment to support unit operations.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care.
• Build positive relationships, accept feedback, and seek opportunities for growth.
• Respond to emergent situations and provide patient supervision or companionship as appropriate.
