Requirements

• Active RN license (New York) or eligibility to obtain one
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience with stroke/stroke stepdown background
• Travel experience required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or ability to obtain prior to start
• AHA BLS certification (current)
• Driver’s license with address that matches demographics
• Ability to float to other units as needed and work with adult patient populations
• Nursing degree from an accredited program (RN)

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to adult Med/Surg patients with stroke and related conditions, including routine monitoring, symptom assessment, and escalation as needed
• Perform frequent neuro checks and NIH Stroke Scale assessments; implement care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
• Administer medications, manage IV therapy and IV pumps, and care for enteral feeding tubes as applicable
• Monitor respiratory status, implement isolation precautions when indicated, and support patients with COPD, CHF, renal issues, pneumonia, and related conditions
• Document care accurately, ensure timely handoffs, and participate in discharge planning and patient/family education
• Assist with callouts, float to other units as needed, and maintain unit-specific equipment and protocols (IV pumps, N/G tubes, feeding tubes)
