About The Position

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited psychiatric nurse practitioner program across the lifespan.
• Valid New York State Nurse Practitioner license in psychiatry.
• Board certification from ANCC as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (across the lifespan).
• Interpersonal skills in verbal and written communication.
• Ability to provide safe patient care.
• Knowledge of psychopharmacology.
• Ability to communicate with interdisciplinary teams.
• Appropriate documentation and billing skills.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a psychiatric nurse practitioner; additional psychiatric roles as a nurse are also noted.

Responsibilities

• Support Highland Hospital’s Psychiatry Consult Liaison service and psychiatric consultation for medically acute patients with psychiatric needs.
• Provide education and liaison services to medical teams and nursing staff throughout the hospital.
• Conduct psychiatric evaluations at the request of medical attendings, including chart review and interviews with staff and, when appropriate, family members.
• Assess patients’ psychiatric needs and diagnoses.
• Collaborate with medical teams on recommendations for psychopharmacologic treatment, non-pharmacologic behavioral interventions, and further medical workup concerning possible causes of psychiatric symptoms.
