Postdoctoral Research Associate - Developmental Neurobiology - Solecki Lab

St. Jude Children's Research HospitalMemphis, TN

About The Position

The Solecki Lab is developing imaging-based biosensor platforms to visualize chromatin states and cell polarity decisions in living neurons. We are seeking postdoctoral fellows interested in building experimental frameworks to understand how cell biological transitions occur during neuronal maturation and circuit assembly in real-time. Postdoctoral researchers will conduct independent research projects utilizing live-cell biosensors, advanced microscopy, neuronal differentiation systems, acute perturbations, and quantitative image analysis to investigate the organization of intracellular state transitions in developing neurons. The role involves not only applying existing tools but also contributing to the development of new experimental approaches, including probes, assays, imaging strategies, and perturbation methods, to make previously invisible cell biological processes visible, measurable, and mechanistically testable. Successful fellows will have the opportunity to define major projects within the lab's broader research efforts, work closely with the PI and an interdisciplinary team on high-risk, high-reward experiments, generate first-author publications, present at national and international meetings, and establish a scientific identity at the intersection of developmental neurobiology, live-cell imaging, biosensor engineering, and quantitative cell biology. The lab is a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment with expertise in biophysics, optics, data science, cell biology, and developmental neurobiology, focused on unraveling brain development. Fellows will gain exposure to cutting-edge imaging technologies, data science core labs, and a collaborative atmosphere where new imaging probes, microscopy, and analytical methods are applied to fundamental problems in brain development.

Requirements

  • PhD in cell biology, biophysics, gene regulation, neuroscience or related discipline
  • Prior experience in live-cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy, and/or imaging probe development.
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g. R, Python) for data analysis
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments and interpret data
  • Ability for cogent experimental preparation, validation, documentation, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out independent research projects.
  • Utilize live-cell biosensors, advanced microscopy, neuronal differentiation systems, acute perturbations, and quantitative image analysis.
  • Develop new experimental approaches, including probes, assays, imaging strategies, and perturbation methods.
  • Define a major project within the lab’s broader effort to understand neuronal maturation, chromatin-state dynamics, polarity transitions, nuclear organization, and circuit assembly.
  • Work closely with the PI and an interdisciplinary team to develop high-risk, high-reward experiments.
  • Generate first-author publications.
  • Present research at national and international meetings.
  • Build a scientific identity at the interface of developmental neurobiology, live-cell imaging, biosensor engineering, and quantitative cell biology.
