About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 6 years of professional software development experience, including at least 5 years building native iOS apps in Swift that shipped to production.
• Ability to read, debug, and safely migrate legacy Objective-C code.
• Deep knowledge of UIKit and the iOS app lifecycle, plus working experience with SwiftUI and Swift concurrency (async/await).
• Experience integrating iOS apps with RESTful APIs and understanding how apps and their services work together.
• Experience building offline-first apps, including local persistence with SQLite or Core Data, synchronization, and conflict handling.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• Strong testing practices, including unit and UI tests with XCTest, and commitment to automated testing.
• Experience with Git, iOS CI/CD (such as Jenkins, Fastlane, or similar), code signing, and App Store or enterprise distribution.
• Experience with Agile delivery methods such as Kanban or Scrum and tracking work in Jira.
• Discipline to work in a codebase where mistakes can stop a store from selling, and clear communication when problems occur.

Nice To Haves

• Backend development experience in Java or Go.
• Card-present payments experience, including payment gateways, EMV devices, tender types, gift cards, or certification cycles.
• Retail or point-of-sale domain experience.
• React Native experience.
• Experience with Bluetooth or external accessory integrations on iOS.
• Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry or crash reporting.
• Experience working with offshore or distributed teams.
• Experience shipping AI features in a mobile app using Core ML, Apple's Foundation Models framework, or LLM APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship features for the KWI POS app on iPhone and iPad, primarily using Swift and Xcode.
• Work with the lead developer on app architecture and own the iOS aspects of features, including state management, error handling, and test coverage.
• Build AI-driven features to help retail associates sell.
• Work from specifications developed with Product, Design, and QA, and help refine specifications before development begins.
• Use AI coding tools daily to write, test, and refactor code, and help the team improve its use of these tools.
• Improve offline mode so stores can continue selling without a network and reconcile data when connectivity returns.
• Build and support integrations with payment devices and store hardware, including card readers, receipt printers, and scanners.
• Retire legacy Objective-C and move the app toward modern Swift patterns, including SwiftUI and Swift concurrency where appropriate.
• Improve performance, stability, and crash rates using existing telemetry.
• Troubleshoot production issues in client stores, including issues specific to individual client configurations.
• Review code, mentor other engineers, and partner technically with the offshore development team.
• Take on changes to the Java or Go web services used by the app as experience in the role grows.
