About The Position

DataRobot is seeking a Software Design Engineer Intern to contribute to real engineering work with dedicated mentorship. Working closely with Documentation and Engineering teams, the intern will improve the developer-facing documentation platform, build CI/CD automation, and use modern AI tooling to help keep documentation accurate and up to date. The role focuses on reducing manual work through tools such as pull request checks, content validation pipelines, and release workflows, so documentation can evolve alongside the product. This is a fully remote, approximately six-month program open to recent college graduates and early-career engineers. The intern will progress from onboarding and guided work to owning scoped automation projects, then refine and document deliverables for handoff and present accomplishments at an Intern Showcase. The position provides practical experience in developer productivity, documentation engineering, AI and LLM automation, and collaborative software engineering.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate or completed Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical project experience.
  • Solid foundational programming skills in Python and comfort with scripting or data parsing.
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
  • Basic exposure to or enthusiasm for CI/CD concepts, such as GitHub Actions, and web or documentation formats such as Markdown, HTML/CSS, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to experiment with LLM APIs for developer productivity.
  • Strong written communication skills and an organized, problem-solving mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience writing GitHub Actions or automating developer workflows.
  • Prior experience with static site generators such as Docusaurus, MkDocs, or Next.js, or with MDX.
  • Familiarity with running automated tests or linting tools in CI pipelines.
  • Personal or academic projects integrating LLM APIs, including OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lightweight GitHub Actions and pull request checks to streamline documentation reviews, run linters, and validate content changes against code updates.
  • Create automated tests that run documentation code examples and notebooks in CI to identify breaking changes.
  • Build tools and scripts to convert, generate, or publish documentation artifacts, including Markdown/MDX pipelines, changelogs, and release summaries from Jira or pull request data.
  • Explore LLMs and agentic scripts for documentation site health tasks, such as flagging stale screenshots and improving documentation indexing and retrieval for AI assistants.
  • Work closely with a mentor and documentation engineers, communicate progress in weekly syncs, document work for team maintenance, and present accomplishments at the Intern Showcase.
