About The Position

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET, or TASC certificate; a combination of appropriate education and experience may substitute for minimum education and experience requirements.
• Four years of professional journey-level HVAC experience, subject to the stated equivalency provision.
• Possession by the end of the probationary period of one of the following certificates issued by the City and County of Denver: Refrigeration Operator, Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman, Steamfitter Journeyman, or Stationary Engineer.
• CFC (Universal EPA) chlorofluorocarbon certification.
• Valid driver's license at the time of application.
• Keep required licenses and certifications current as a condition of employment.
• Ability to work varied shifts based on business needs and extended hours or alternative shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, when operational conditions require.
• Ability to perform mandatory snow-removal duties.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Team orientation and willingness to help where needed.
• Ability to adapt and learn new systems.
• FBI criminal background check and reporting of felony convictions and moving violations to maintain airport clearance.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of leading specialized HVAC teams and/or contractors.
• Knowledge of large-scale and large-size HVAC systems and equipment.
• Commercial and/or industrial HVAC experience, including strong skills in preventive maintenance, repairs, and project work.
• Knowledge of hydronic, direct-expansion (DX), and forced-air systems.
• Computer skills and experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Building Automation System experience.
• HVAC certification preferred at the time of application, such as Heating and Ventilation Journeyman, Steamfitter Journeyman, or Refrigeration Journeyman.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and inspect electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems for faults in HVAC systems.
• Develop HVAC system modification plans and estimate jobs for remodeling activities.
• Install, replace, and repair forced-air heating systems and ductwork.
• Prepare working sketches and work from blueprints.
• Maintain records and prepare reports; estimate materials, labor, and equipment costs.
• Observe common safety practices.
• Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures; determine work priorities and develop schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
• Provide work instructions and assist employees with difficult or unusual assignments.
• Resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determine appropriate solutions.
• Contribute to performance enhancement plans, document performance, provide performance feedback, and furnish information for formal performance evaluations.
• Perform lead work over HVAC Mechanics engaged in installation, maintenance, and repairs.
• Inspect facilities and equipment to determine needs as permitted by the appropriate HVAC certificate.
• Perform mandatory snow-removal duties and support airport operations during emergencies as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
