About The Position

Requirements

• Hold standard teaching certification in History/Social Studies.
• Have a strong knowledge base in writing and demonstrate effective writing instructional practices.
• Understand and apply the NJSS ELA Companion Standards for History, Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects.
• Understand and apply effective classroom intervention and differentiation strategies, including support for English language learners and students with IEPs.
• Hold or plan to pursue the New Jersey Department of Education certifications necessary to teach high school.

Responsibilities

• Teach high school social studies using rigorous, research-based, and culturally relevant instruction.
• Integrate reading and writing into content-area instruction using the NJSS ELA Companion Standards for History, Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects.
• Use intervention and differentiation strategies to support students, including English language learners and students with individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Develop students’ critical and creative thinking, literacy, and communication skills.
