Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's eight nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Radiation Protection Technology, a Physical Science or equivalent required
  • Experience in Health Physics or Radiation Protection programs is required
  • Applicant must be able to obtain an unescorted badge at all SNC sites
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required
  • Strong presentation skills are also required
  • Strong ability to make decisions and drive behaviors is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required
  • Ability to balance multiple objectives and set priorities is required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to problem solve and seek alternative solutions to complex issues is needed

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Protection, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or other physical science preferred
  • Masters Degree Health Physics or Engineering preferred
  • NRRPT or CHP preferred
  • BWR experience is preferred
  • Experience with nuclear power plant outages, access control is preferred
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases are highly desirable
  • Strong working knowledge of BWR nuclear power plant systems, processes, and procedures and clear understanding of and ability to apply regulatory requirements to plant settings are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring all aspects of the Radiation Protection program and performance indicators
  • Implementing special projects to improve Radiation Protection Programs
  • Implementing RP Technical Programs and associated responsibilities
  • Site dosimetry support
  • Tracking/Trending all radiological data related to plant performance indicators
  • Benchmarking industry on Radiation Protection issues and site performance
  • Filling the Emergency Response Organization position
  • Additional support for RP department responsibilities as needed
  • Administrative and document control duties as required
