About The Position

The Physicist PhD 1 provides leadership and supervision of clinical physics activities, including treatment planning, quality assurance, and treatment delivery. The position improves the quality and safety of radiation treatments through research and development and provides education through formal and informal instruction. Services may be provided at LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

• Doctorate’s degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or another related Biomedical Science.
• Completion of a medical physics residency.
• Eligibility to take the American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification examination.
• Knowledge of applying physics principles to radiation therapy delivery for cancer patients, including charged particle accelerators, x-ray production, and clinical applications.
• Knowledge of leading technical and clinical projects related to equipment and software implementation and upgrades.
• Knowledge of developing and maintaining clinical software to improve workflow efficiency, quality assurance, and treatment accuracy.
• Knowledge of treatment planning systems and site-specific external beam and brachytherapy techniques.
• Knowledge of radiation interactions with matter, dose deposition, and image formation.
• Knowledge of radiation dose calculations and measurements.
• Knowledge of quality management programs for radiation therapy and radiation protection.
• Knowledge of oncology principles, patient anatomy, and radiobiology.
• Ability to read, write legibly, and speak English with professional quality.
• Ability to use computer and software programs necessary for the position and to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
• Ability to communicate positively, effectively, and professionally; follow and enforce policies; work calmly and courteously under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, collaborate, and accept direction.
• Ability to think critically, work independently with minimal supervision, perform basic math, manage multiple assignments, problem solve, organize and prioritize workload, recall information accurately, and pay close attention to detail.
• Ability to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify workplace and patient-care sounds; see sufficiently to read screens and documents; and discern temperature variances through touch.
• Be board eligible for certification in therapeutic medical physics by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or an equivalent board.
• Obtain ABR board certification within 7 years of the hire date as Physicist PhD 1.
