About The Position

The University of North Carolina seeks a clinical radiation therapy physicist to provide services at the Departments of Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina Cancer Care Center at Rockingham in Eden, North Carolina. This full-time position shares responsibility for both locations with another physicist on staff. The Rockingham department operates under the guidance and oversight of the main Radiation Oncology Department in Chapel Hill. The Chapel Hill department is staffed by 13 radiation oncologists, 7 dosimetrists, 12 medical physicists, and 1 IT specialist. Its equipment includes two Elekta Versa accelerators, one Varian TrueBeam accelerator, one CyberKnife system, one Mobetron intraoperative accelerator, one Elekta HDR system, one VariSeed LDR prostate system, one Philips large-bore CT simulator, and one Philips MR simulator. The Rockingham facility has one radiation oncologist, one physicist, and four radiation therapists. It treats 10–20 patients per day using 3D, IMRT/VMAT, and SBRT on a single Elekta Infinity linear accelerator. Shared resources include RayStation, Accuray Precision, Oncentra HDR Brachy, and VariSeed LDR Brachy treatment planning systems; Mosaiq record and verify; and VisionRT. Dosimetry services are centralized. The successful candidate will provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for both facilities, together amounting to a full-time position, and support IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS, and brachytherapy programs. The role includes staff physicist duties, oversight and direction of junior staff during equipment acceptance and commissioning, dosimetry data gathering, and external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning.
