About The Position

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Radiological Health Physicist for its Environment, Safety, Health and Quality team. The position is based at the Materials and Fuels Complex in Idaho and follows a 4x10 schedule. The role provides technical and regulatory support for implementation and continuous improvement of the laboratory’s Radiation Protection program, including oversight of radiological work and assessment of compliance with 10 CFR 835, applicable DOE Orders, the INL Radiological Control Manual, and related procedures. The physicist conducts internal and external dosimetry exposure investigations, interprets test results, identifies deficiencies, develops corrective actions, and provides technical guidance on radiological control policies and procedures. The role also reviews regulatory requirements, research and operational projects, and proposed radiological work activities. Work may include developing technical work documents, ALARA reviews, Radiation Work Permits, waste characterizations, internal dose monitoring, and air-sampling performance. The position provides analysis and support for radiation-detection instrumentation and technical bases for radiation protection standards. It may include responsibility for the DOELAP-accredited program and associated documentation, reviewing and approving external dosimetry data, vendor audits, oversight of external dosimetry practices, and assistance with Nuclear Accident Dosimetry processing and refurbishment or the OSL extremity estimator program. The physicist develops or assists with training programs, prepares scientific and technical materials, reports, presentations, and concept papers, and may brief senior leadership or program sponsors. The role may also contribute to national or international standards-setting activities and generate proposals and business development opportunities. The position may require DOE security clearance and Human Reliability Program designation depending on assignment, emergency response organization qualifications as required, and radiological worker and respiratory protection qualifications where required. It is a testing-designated position requiring pre-employment and periodic drug testing.
