About The Position

Requirements

• Knowledge of horticulture, ability to operate equipment.
• Possesses communication and interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to work effectively individually and with a team, ability to follow oral and written instructions, proven record of grounds maintenance work, knowledgeable of handling and applying herbicides in a safe manner, ability to work for long hours on one’s feet, agile to perform physical tasks constantly, knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.
• Requirements consist of a high school education and 2 years of experience in ground maintenance work.
• This classification requires the use of a personal or company vehicle while conducting company business. Must possess a valid (Clas A) Hawaii driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• This position resides on a military installation. Candidate must be able to qualify for and obtain a base access pass.
• This position requires an active SECRET security clearance or qualify for an exemption approved by the Contracting Officer Representative. Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in grounds maintenance. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Performs grass mowing and edging, hedge and groundcover trimming, tree pruning, vegetation control, plant pest control, fertilization, and overall planted area maintenance
• Maintains and repairs sprinkler and irrigation systems
• Identifies and inventories supplies, equipment, and other items needed to support grounds maintenance
• Performs ground maintenance equipment repairs as necessary
• Attends safety meetings and other related meetings
• Assists with minor facilities maintenance tasks
