About The Position

Requirements

• Extensive work experience involving public contact, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and job safety precautions.
• Knowledge of excellent customer-service attributes.
• Knowledge of golf course playing rules.
• Knowledge of division and department rules, procedures, and functions.
• Knowledge of basic electronic equipment, including handheld radios and computers.
• Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively.
• Ability to relate to the needs and concerns of senior citizens.
• Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management.
• Ability to work a minimum of two days per week and fill in for additional days if needed.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• Ability to perform the stated physical activities, including frequent standing, walking, talking, hearing, seeing, and using hands; carrying up to 20 pounds frequently and lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to read, solve problems, use verbal and written communication skills, and handle frequent customer contact and interruptions.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the golf course by designated golf cart and help maintain the pace of play.
• Determine who is authorized to play and instruct golfers in the proper care of greens, traps, and divots.
• Enforce play-through rules and other golf course rules as needed.
• Act as starter on Courses 2 or 3 when requested by the Pro Shop.
• Carry sand in the ranger cart, fill fairway divots, and repair green ball marks without interrupting play.
• Advise or report on misuse of motorized carts and enforce the 90-degree rule where applicable.
• Use the rule-violation notebook and issue citations according to instructions.
• Inspect the course and report areas requiring attention, including wet or dangerous areas, to Golf Maintenance.
• Use a handheld radio regularly to communicate with the golf shop.
• Inspect the course for broken or misplaced stakes and replace signs, ropes, and rakes as needed.
• Pick up and properly dispose of trash found on the course, excluding materials or clippings left for the Golf Maintenance Crew.
• Pick up mail from the Community Center Building and daily sales reports from the Par 3 Course in the morning, and return them to the Pro Shop Starter.
• Check electric carts in, determine remaining battery charge, maintain proper charge levels, connect carts to chargers at day’s end, and clean carts.
• Monitor activity on the upper putting green to ensure it is used properly.
• Drive carts from the Cart Barn to the staging area.
• Open and close the driving range.
• Record range-ball sales in the POS system and check range users’ resident IDs.
• Keep the driving-range area clean and orderly.
• Collect range balls using the picking unit and by hand in inaccessible areas, run them through the ball-cleaning machine, and fill ball baskets.
• Treat everyone in a friendly and courteous manner and work constructively and respectfully with coworkers, customers, and others.
• Drive a vehicle to perform job-related responsibilities.
• Assist in other areas of golf course or clubhouse operations as required.
