About The Position

Responsibilities

• Identify and mark underground utility infrastructure, including water, wastewater, storm, fiber-optic networks, and electrical wiring, using appropriate locating equipment and methods in public rights-of-way and easement areas.
• Evaluate conflicting utility records, interpret technical information, verify field conditions, and make technical decisions to support accurate utility locating and asset mapping.
• Support compliance with Washington’s underground utility damage prevention requirements, including locating deadlines, positive responses, documentation, and coordination of contracted locating services.
• Collect field data using GIS and GPS/GNSS; edit GIS records and verify assets.
• Interpret as-built drawings and construction records and resolve discrepancies between mapped information and actual field conditions.
• Maintain locating standard operating procedures, coordinate training, track field-to-GIS corrections, and support accurate and reliable utility records.
• Build and maintain internal and external partnerships through collaboration, resource sharing, and use of diverse expertise.
• Make timely and effective decisions under deadlines and pressure, including when information is limited.
• Adapt to changing circumstances and consider new ideas and diverse perspectives.
• Communicate information effectively through various methods and practice active listening.
• Apply objective reasoning when evaluating qualitative and quantitative information.
