About The Position
Prosper is seeking an engineering leader to foster people growth, platform advancement, and organizational development. The Manager, Engineering will lead a team building Prosper’s credit card and personal loan experiences, including customer-facing web and mobile apps, card products, payments, shared product platforms, and tools and AI/ML systems supporting customer service operations. The role guides the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software aligned with business objectives while fostering collaboration, innovation, engineering best practices, and engineer growth. The manager oversees the full software development lifecycle, coordinates project scope and delivery with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders, and is accountable for software quality, operational excellence, and safe production releases. The role also leads modernization of owned systems, adoption of AI-assisted development tools, and development of a positive, inclusive, high-performance team culture. Prosper’s technology organization uses progressive, test-driven Agile practices emphasizing communication, teamwork, sound design, and clean implementation. The position may be based in Prosper’s San Francisco or Phoenix offices or performed fully remotely. The annual salary range is $200,000–$220,000, plus bonus and benefits; compensation considers location, experience, and other job-related factors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- At least 3 years of technical management experience.
- At least 3 years of working experience with remote teams.
- At least 8 years of hands-on engineering experience, with depth in either back end (for example, Java/Spring Boot) or front end (for example, React/GraphQL), and working fluency in the other.
- Experience managing teams that deliver both back-end services and customer-facing web or mobile experiences.
- A proven track record of creating and managing high-performing teams.
- Excellent project management skills, including experience with tools such as Jira.
- Creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions and guide teams through complex technical challenges.

- Experience with cloud platforms, especially GCP, and distributed systems.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and leading teams in adopting them.
- Experience with modern monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including microservices and cloud-native design.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a Scrum team of 6–10 software engineers.
- Oversee the full software development lifecycle for team projects, from planning and design through deployment and maintenance.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define project scope, requirements, and timelines aligned with product vision and business goals.
- Drive project execution, monitor progress, identify and mitigate risks, and deliver high-quality software releases on time.
- Own the quality and safety of the team’s releases through automated testing, rigorous code review, and controlled rollouts such as feature flags and staged releases.
- Champion operational excellence through monitoring and observability, proactive incident management, and swift resolution of production issues.
- Guide system modernization, retirement of legacy services and technical debt, and movement toward scalable, reliable, cloud-native architecture.
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted development tools, establishing practices for code review, security, and data privacy.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, high-performance team culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
- Communicate project status, technical challenges, and team performance to team members, peers, and leadership.
- Contribute to quarterly and sprint planning to develop actionable, high-quality roadmaps.
