Growth Engineer

Circleback•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Circleback is building an AI-powered platform that captures, organizes, and makes company conversations—including meetings, calls, and emails—usable through meeting notes, action items, and search. The company is a small, profitable team backed by Y Combinator, with thousands of paying customers and viral growth. The Growth Engineer will be Circleback’s first growth hire, owning growth engineering from day one and deciding what to build and test. The role focuses on product-led growth and works closely with the founders and Founding Marketer, who owns channels and brand. The engineer will ship across the stack as part of a small team, including work on web, desktop, and mobile applications.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping production software, including growth experiments.
  • Experience personally instrumenting a funnel, such as signup conversion, activation, or retention.
  • Ability to investigate data independently, such as by writing queries or analyzing a funnel.
  • Strong product judgment and care for experiments that improve signup, activation, or retention.
  • Care about users as well as implementation.
  • Low-ego, direct working style and comfort operating with little process.

Nice To Haves

  • Background as a former founder, early startup engineer, or engineer who has owned features end-to-end; this background is not required.
  • Experience with the listed technologies: React, Next.js, Prisma, SWR, Electron, Swift, and React Native.

Responsibilities

  • Improve each stage of the product-led growth loop, including meeting notes received by non-users, signup, onboarding, and activation.
  • Investigate why Circleback spreads across entire teams at some companies but remains limited to a few users at others, and build product changes to address the gap.
  • Build and maintain analytics and experimentation infrastructure, including event instrumentation, attribution, dashboards, and A/B tests.
  • Improve retention by learning what sustains long-term use and helping more users reach that point.
  • Ship in-product growth features such as upgrade flows, referral tools, and integrations.
  • Work across web, desktop, and mobile applications.
  • Work with the Founding Marketer to identify tests and share findings.

Benefits

  • Free lunch and dinners.
  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Flexible health coverage.
  • 401K matching.
