About The Position

Pacific Scientific EMC is seeking a multidisciplinary Automation Engineer II to design and advance automation systems. The role serves as a technical authority across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical domains, leading equipment design, qualification, and sustainment from early concept through full-scale production. The engineer translates program requirements into tooling, fixtures, and integrated automation lines, working with cross-functional teams across multiple sites to scale processes from manual or semi-automated to fully automated solutions. The position includes system design and integration, equipment testing and qualification, lifecycle management of deployed automation platforms, and support for factory deployments. The engineer also develops technical and operational documentation, provides training and troubleshooting support, and helps production and engineering teams sustain automation equipment. This is an on-site role based at one of the company's sites in Hollister, California; Chandler, Arizona; or Solon, Ohio. Travel of up to 50% across site locations is expected. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of progressive automation engineering experience, including tooling and fixture design and multidisciplinary system integration, in an electronics, aerospace, defense, or automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and scaling automation systems from prototype through full production.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, mechanical tooling and fixturing design, and system architecture development.
  • Experience in electronics systems engineering in an industry such as aerospace, defense, automotive, autonomous vehicles, or robotics.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Behavior aligned with the company's guiding principles: We Win as One Team, We Solve Problems, We Learn by Doing, We Unlock Growth, and We Own Our Future.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system-level design and scale-up activities, taking processes from manual or semi-automated operation to fully automated production lines.
  • Design, test, and qualify automation systems according to specifications and program requirements.
  • Design tooling and fixtures for manual, semi-automated, and automated processes using GD&T principles.
  • Translate system requirements into principles of operation and integration strategies for fully automated lines.
  • Apply mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and optical engineering expertise to deliver integrated automation solutions.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for deployed automation platforms and guide improvements and lifecycle management.
  • Develop manufacturing bills of materials, operating and maintenance procedures, spare parts lists, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Provide hands-on training and troubleshooting support to sustain engineering and operations teams.
  • Lead system integration, including requirements translation, architecture development, and functional validation.
  • Troubleshoot complex, multi-technology systems and guide teams through root cause analysis.
  • Support factory deployments, FAT and SAT testing, and equipment qualification activities.
  • Document requirements specifications, functional descriptions, and system architecture for long-term sustainment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
