About The Position
Grifols is seeking a part-time Center Medical Specialist for a plasma donation center. The role may be filled by a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, or EMT, subject to state licensing and certification requirements. The specialist assesses donor suitability, supports donor safety and education, manages injuries and adverse events, and contributes to staff training and the employee Hepatitis Vaccine program. Work takes place in a plasma center and includes exposure to biological fluids, electrical office and laboratory equipment, and temperatures below 32°F in plasma freezers. Personal protective equipment is required. Salary depends on licensure and experience.
Requirements
- Be educated and currently certified or licensed in the state of employment, according to state requirements, as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, or EMT.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and understand spoken information.
- Ability to work independently and follow oral or written instructions.
- Ability to perform a wide range of tasks in response to variable demands and changing conditions.
- Ability to relate sensitive information to diverse groups.
- Physical capability to stand and sit for up to 2 to 4 hours per day each; bend and twist the neck for 1 to 2 hours per day; perform frequent hand and foot movements; and occasionally walk, bend, twist at the waist, squat, or crouch.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds routinely and up to 50 pounds maximum, and reach below shoulder height.
- Hearing acuity; color perception and discrimination; and near and far vision correctable in one eye to 20/30 and in the other eye to 20/100.
- Ability to work with required protective eyewear, garments, gloves, and cold-weather gear.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations and establish medical histories to determine donor suitability.
- Build rapport with donors to support overall customer satisfaction.
- Maintain donor and staff confidentiality.
- Inform donors about potential hazards.
- Provide general health education and counseling regarding unacceptable test results.
- Evaluate and manage donor injuries and adverse events.
- Review illness and medication histories to ensure continued donor suitability.
- Assist with employee training.
- Administer the employee Hepatitis Vaccine program.
