About The Position

Requirements

• Active, unencumbered Florida LPN license
• Current BLS certification
• Ability to pass a background screening
• Availability to deploy on short notice and work extended 12-hour shifts in shelter/field conditions
• Comfort working as part of an RN-led team in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment

Nice To Haves

• Emergency, long-term care, shelter, or disaster-response experience
• IV/medication administration per FL scope
• ICS/FEMA training

Responsibilities

• Provide basic nursing care to shelter occupants under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Administer treatments and medications within the LPN scope of practice as directed.
• Deliver first aid, monitor vital signs, and manage minor illnesses and injuries.
• Collect clinical data and assist the RN with screenings, monitoring, and referrals to urgent care, hospital, or EMS.
• Respond to on-site medical incidents and provide nursing care within scope, supporting the RN until EMS assumes care.
• Monitor for heat illness, dehydration, fatigue, infectious-disease concerns, and signs of stress.
• Implement infection-prevention practices and recommend isolation or mitigation measures when appropriate.
• Assist with setup of the shelter medical station and maintain medical-supply inventory.
• Maintain accurate documentation, incident notes, and supply/usage records.
• Escalate serious incidents promptly to the RN and management.
