About The Position
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation, is hiring a Publications Specialist 2 to serve as a scientific and technical reports editor. The position works with wildlife biologists across Alaska to ensure reports meet standards for style, grammar, clarity, and accuracy before publication. The editor copyedits and formats documents in Microsoft Word, adds accessibility features in Adobe Acrobat for web publishing, and enters published reports into the division’s publications database, which serves as a bibliography of published works. The incumbent participates in the division’s publications team to support high-quality publications for the public. The position also offers the opportunity to learn about Alaska’s wildlife and wildlife research and management, and to train staff on topics related to scientific writing. The role may be based in Anchorage, Juneau, or Fairbanks, depending on the location of the most qualified candidate. It is open to Alaska residents only.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and/or experience that provides competencies in communications and media, computer skills, interpersonal skills, multimedia technologies, and writing.
- Preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in writing, editing, design and layout of written materials, such as publications, articles, brochures, newsletters, printed materials, or internet documents.
- Valid driver's license.
- Alaska residency, as defined by the employer.

Responsibilities
- Edit scientific and technical reports for the Division of Wildlife Conservation.
- Work with wildlife biologists across Alaska to ensure reports have appropriate style, grammar, clarity, and accuracy before publication.
- Copyedit and format documents in Microsoft Word.
- Add accessibility features in Adobe Acrobat to prepare reports for web publishing.
- Enter published reports into the division’s publications database.
- Participate as a member of the division’s publications team to support high-quality publication production for the public.
- Train staff in topics related to scientific writing.
