Video Editor/Shooter

Harvey•San Francisco, CA
•$159,200 - $218,900

About The Position

Harvey is hiring a Video Editor & Shooter to create finished video for its content and social channels. Editing and social storytelling are the core of the role: the editor finds stories in footage, provides editorial recommendations, and owns edits from footage selects through final delivery. The role also shoots executive content, interviews, events, and other planned capture. This is one of the first two hires in a dedicated Content & Social creative pod, working alongside its creative lead. The role sits within Harvey Creative Studio for creative leadership, craft, and brand standards, while the Content & Social roadmap determines workload and priorities. The editor works directly with Content & Social leads from briefing through delivery and with the pod’s creative lead on narrative and editorial direction. The creative lead retains overall narrative responsibility; the editor owns editing craft and delivery of finished assets within that direction. The pod’s planned work includes supporting one to three recurring series each month, covering two to three events per month and turning footage into channel content, and producing ongoing product videos with Product Marketing and relevant creative teams. Recurring series generally have longer planning cycles; event and product launch work often has a one-to-two-week turnaround. Workload, deliverables, capture, editing time, and reviews are agreed upfront. The pod owns content and social assets on its product launch roadmap, while larger campaigns and demo productions remain with the relevant creative teams. The editor collaborates with Content & Social leads, the creative lead, copywriting support when assigned, and a production owner responsible for scheduling, vendors, budgets, and shoot logistics. The role also maintains organized project files, footage backups, templates, LUTs, export presets, reusable assets, and shoot equipment.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional video editing experience, with a portfolio demonstrating consistent delivery of strong social content.
  • Strong editing skills in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, including captions, basic graphics, color correction, audio mixing, and exports for different channels.
  • Strong editorial judgment, including the ability to find a clear story in footage and explain recommendations on hooks, pacing, structure, and format.
  • Experience developing or improving recurring social formats and using audience response to inform subsequent edits.
  • Hands-on shooting skills for interviews, executive content, and events, including camera, lighting, and audio.
  • A calm approach to working with non-professional on-camera talent.
  • Experience balancing planned programming with shorter production timelines, managing feedback, and delivering finished work on schedule.
  • Clear communication, reliable media organization, and judgment to raise scope or capacity issues early.
  • Flexibility for planned event coverage, travel, and occasional early or late shoots.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on a dedicated content or social team at a technology, SaaS, or B2B company.
  • Experience editing product demonstrations, screen recordings, explainers, or use-case videos.
  • Interest in AI, the legal industry, and making complex products understandable through video.

Responsibilities

  • Own edits from footage review and selects through finished, platform-ready assets, using self-captured footage and material supplied by other teams.
  • Find stories in interviews, event footage, and product content; recommend hooks, structure, pacing, and cutdowns suited to the message, audience, and channel.
  • Finish videos with captions, on-screen text, basic graphics, music, sound design, audio mixing, and color correction; deliver required aspect ratios and channel versions.
  • Build and refine recurring formats with the creative lead and Content & Social team, using audience response and available performance insights to recommend editorial improvements.
  • Manage versions and feedback through final export, checking message clarity, caption accuracy, picture, sound, and platform specifications.
  • Shoot executive content, interviews, events, and other capture planned on the Content & Social roadmap using reliable camera, lighting, and audio setups.
  • Translate briefs and creative direction into practical capture plans and shot lists, and capture coverage needed for planned edits and channel versions.
  • Help executives and other non-professional talent feel comfortable on camera, following the creative lead’s direction and agreed interview approach.
  • Coordinate capture and editing time with the creative lead and production support; raise resource needs early so shoots and finished-asset delivery are covered.
  • Work with Content & Social leads and the creative lead to confirm message, audience, channel, deliverables, and timing before work begins.
  • Incorporate Content & Social feedback on content and platform fit and Harvey Creative Studio feedback on creative execution, craft, and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with copywriting support, when assigned, on scripts, interview preparation, and paper edits, while the creative lead retains overall narrative ownership.
  • Provide capture requirements to the production owner and flag capacity conflicts so editing time is protected.
  • Maintain organized project files, footage backups, templates, LUTs, export presets, and reusable assets for efficient edits and handoffs.
  • Keep camera, lighting, and audio equipment organized and ready; handle routine setup and care, and flag repair, rental, or additional crew needs to the production owner.
