About The Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational and administrative functions of the Nursing program. The ADON will work closely with the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest standards of nursing education are maintained, students receive exceptional support, and the program remains in compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The ADON will also assist in curriculum development, faculty coordination, and administrative tasks, contributing to the overall success of the Nursing department.

Requirements

  • Holds an active and unencumbered California Registered Nurse license.
  • Holds a master’s degree or higher, preferably in an appropriate discipline, from an accredited college or university, including coursework in nursing, education, and/or administration.
  • Has a minimum of one year of experience as an Assistant Program Director in prelicensure nursing education.
  • Has two years of experience teaching in prelicensure or postlicensure registered nursing programs.
  • Has one year of continuous, full-time experience, or its equivalent, providing direct patient care as a registered nurse.
  • Possesses equivalent experience and/or education, as determined by the Board.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of nursing education standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Possesses strong technical skills, including proficiency with computer applications, internet research, database management, and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Canvas or a related learning management system for instruction—including assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebooks, and modules—is preferred.
  • Experience teaching in online, hybrid, remote, or blended formats is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to develop and maintain the curriculum, ensuring compliance with state regulations, accreditation standards, and industry requirements.
  • Assist with the development and review of course materials, assessments, and teaching methodologies.
  • Create a compassionate, supportive, caring, and student-centered academic environment.
  • Monitor student progress and provide academic support as needed.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating nursing faculty members.
  • Coordinate faculty schedules and assignments, ensuring adequate coverage for classes and clinical rotations.
  • Facilitate regular faculty meetings to promote communication and professional development.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, including academic advising and assistance with student concerns.
  • Oversee clinical placements for students.
  • Assist with preparing reports and documentation required for accreditation and compliance with state regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing on budget management and resource allocation.
  • Help organize and participate in nursing program events, including orientations and graduation ceremonies.
  • Adhere to the educational institution’s policies and applicable professional codes of conduct, maintain confidentiality, and uphold ethical standards.
  • Incorporate team-based learning strategies, participate in faculty meetings, engage in professional development, and foster an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
  • Participate on College committees as assigned by the Executive Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Campus Director or Director of Nursing.
