About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate from an appropriately accredited school of professional nursing, subject to the stated education pathways and exceptions.
• Hold current, full, active, and unrestricted registered nurse licensure in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia; a temporary Graduate Nurse Technician exception may apply to eligible candidates pursuing licensure.
• Be proficient in basic written and spoken English.
• Meet the applicable education, experience, and grade-level criteria for the Nurse I, Nurse II, or Nurse III assignment.
• Be a U.S. citizen, except that non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
• Complete required pre-employment drug testing if selected for a testing-designated position; refusal results in denial of VA employment.
• Meet Selective Service registration requirements for males born after December 31, 1959.
• Undergo a background/security investigation and complete online onboarding and identification requirements.
• Pass a pre-employment physical evaluation and participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
• Complete all application requirements specified in the announcement.
• Provide official transcripts if selected; current federal employees must provide a qualifying recent non-award SF-50.
• Use education recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; foreign education must be accompanied by the required equivalency documentation.
• Be physically able to satisfactorily perform the position duties.

Nice To Haves

• One to two years of long-term care experience.
• One to two years of rehabilitation experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe care to assigned patients.
• Safely and effectively use patient-care equipment and perform nursing procedures.
• Recognize abnormal signs or changes in patients’ conditions and respond appropriately.
• Implement provider orders and nursing interventions in a timely and complete manner.
• Assess patients’ conditions and responses to treatment and initiate follow-up as needed.
• Include patients and their families or significant others in developing initial care plans and goals.
• Document the nursing process.
• Use CPRS, Essentris, Clinical Procedures, BCMA, and future patient documentation programs according to policy.
• May act as charge nurse and delegate care appropriately to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
• May be responsible for medication administration.
