About The Position

Requirements

• High school degree or GED required.
• Two plus years’ experience preferred in a laboratory or similar environment; or two plus years’ experience preferred working in a carbon composite manufacturing environment; or an Associate of Arts degree in a lab science or closely related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
• Personal computer experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel and Word required.
• Ability to evaluate conditions, recognize safety and quality issues and determine best course of action with supervisory assistance.
• Position requires the ability to set priorities, follow schedules and manage own time.
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve at an intermediate level.
• Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to operate a variety of laboratory equipment.
• Ability to operate power equipment such as forklifts, hoists, etc., and to utilize a variety of laboratory tools and measuring devices.
• Possess a theoretical knowledge of chemistry.
• Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software.
• Position requires a working ability to read and understand laboratory procedures.
• Knowledge of safety techniques, practices and procedures for handling hazardous materials.
• Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.
• Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities.
• Position frequently requires the ability to make quick decisions related to the area’s processes.
• Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills, perform basic mathematical computations, write legibly, follow directions and to understand and apply work specifications.
• The ability to hear, speak, use hands/fingers and the repetitive motions of hands/wrists are frequent.
• Ability to seldom lift 40 pounds.
• Ability to use mechanical lifts.
• Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight.
• Ability to be physically mobile and to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time, including wearing a respirator and maintaining respirator fit.

Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and laboratory procedures; Check and refill fluids, heat ovens, etc.
• Obtain materials/supplies required for work tasks.
• Maintain work area(s) in a clean and organized condition.
• Calibrate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including documentation.
• Perform sample/test preparations including locating, labeling and verifying test materials, dissolution and filtering, and instrument set-ups.
• Perform laboratory tests, following established documented procedures.
• Enter data into computer program; review output ensuring accuracy; verify and document test results, noting abnormal data and send information to supervisor for review.
• Update test log ensuring accuracy and proper tracking of samples.
• Perform job tasks according to schedules, using established safe methods and processes.
• Work with others to achieve an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Assist in the training of other Laboratory Associates.
• Attend and actively participate in meetings.
• Perform other related laboratory duties as assigned.
