About The Position

Lethbridge School Division is seeking Casual Caretakers to provide relief coverage at Division schools. Casual Caretakers work under the general supervision of the Head Caretaker or designate and are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, staff, and community members. The majority of shifts are scheduled during the evening hours; however, day shifts may occasionally be required. Our schools are active community hubs that continue to be used after regular school hours. As a result, caretakers regularly interact with students, staff, and community user groups. Successful candidates will be team-oriented professionals who build positive relationships and contribute to a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained learning environment for all users of the school.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, a commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while dealing courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public.
  • Reliable, flexible, and dependable.
  • Ability to safely handle a variety of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of caretaking work, including lifting and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies, as well as climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Sufficient sight and hearing to perform related job duties
  • Able to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently and 22-31.5 kg with assistance
  • Able to work in a highly active physical environment
  • Able to work with a variety of chemicals
  • Must be physically capable of performing heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
  • Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given preference.
  • Must provide a police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Must provide a satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Must provide proof of photo identification.
  • Must provide documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous caretaking experience
  • A high School Diploma or equivalent
  • A valid 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Performing the cleaning duties throughout the school, such as: Thorough cleaning of all washrooms, fixtures, partitions, and shower areas
  • Washing of all desks, counters, doors, windows, etc.
  • All dusting in the school
  • Mopping, vacuuming, and waxing of floors
  • Securing of Division buildings
  • Preventative maintenance, lock downs, fire drills, and changing lights
  • Snow and ice removal from walkways
  • Following Division policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Operating cleaning equipment and use cleaning products safely and effectively.
  • Working independently and manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Supporting a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and community users.
