About The Position

The Appellate Mediation Office (AMO) seeks a highly organized, personable, and dependable Administrative Assistant (AA) to support the work of two appellate mediators, the operation of the AMO, and to interface with other court personnel. The AA is essential to the efficient operation of the AMO and serves as the primary point of contact for attorneys, self-represented parties, court staff, and the public. The AA must be a self-starter with strong clerical, communication, computer, and people skills, and the ability to assist individuals who may be experiencing stressful or emotionally charged situations. The AA plays a key role in scheduling and supporting mediations, maintaining accurate records and statistics, and ensuring that mediation proceedings-both remote and in-person-run smoothly and professionally. With the mediators, the AA has the opportunity to be part of a team and a court system that helps people and attorneys resolve their disputes. This is a mostly remote position with some in-person work at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. The job is three-quarters time: 30 hours per week and comes with benefits. The weekly schedule will not exceed 30 hours a week, but daily hours may vary based on the length of mediation conferences, which is not always predictable. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the appellate mediation process, helping attorneys and parties navigate complex and stressful situations, and contributing to the efficient operation of Utah's appellate courts in a professional, collaborative environment.
