About The Position
Kinder Morgan is hiring an Analyst/Accountant - Commercial for its South Region Pipelines, supporting Southern Natural Gas. This role performs customer-related account services, including preparing and evaluating monthly natural gas transportation invoices in compliance with pipeline tariffs and SOx controls, responding to customer inquiries, reviewing accounts receivable, and supporting existing and new business solutions. The position also monitors LNG production and storage activity, supports revenue and allocation processes in the company’s proprietary DART transportation system, and assists Commercial and Financial Planning teams with monitoring revenue and customer activity. It generates revenue and other reports, tracks performance, and works with teams across the company and with customers and external agencies. The role is based in an office environment at the South Region Pipeline Group Headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, with a hybrid schedule: in the office Monday through Wednesday and remote Thursday and Friday. Occasional overtime is expected as needed, sometimes on short or no notice, and occasional light travel may be necessary. The job level will be commensurate with experience and skill sets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, marketing, or a closely related discipline.
- Highly motivated, with initiative and the ability to work through complex issues.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn proprietary computer systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel pivot tables and advanced formula functions.
- Detail oriented while able to understand the larger picture.
- Resourceful, with the ability to gather, synthesize, and disseminate information.
- Ability to manage stressful situations with critical deadlines.
Nice To Haves
- General understanding of Kinder Morgan’s interstate pipeline commercial business, including deal execution, contract administration, scheduling, allocation, rates, and invoicing.
- Knowledge of Kinder Morgan proprietary transportation systems (DART), rates, and invoice processes.
- Knowledge of South Region interstate natural gas transportation.
- Three to five years of interstate natural gas pipeline industry experience.
- Experience using MS SQL and/or MS Access to support complex business solutions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and evaluate monthly natural gas transportation invoices in compliance with tariffs and SOx controls.
- Ensure customer invoices are processed accurately and on time in compliance with South Region Pipeline tariffs.
- Respond to and resolve internal and external customer questions and issues related to invoicing.
- Train internal and external customers on transportation services, available information and reports, and pipeline proprietary transportation systems.
- Review and report accounts receivable.
- Monitor LNG production and storage activity and assist customers with managing their LNG activity.
- Support revenue and allocation processes within Kinder Morgan’s DART transportation system.
- Maintain compliance with internal SOx controls, including documenting process flows, identifying risks, implementing mitigating controls, and retaining evidence of compliance related to invoicing.
- Assist Commercial and Financial Planning teams with monitoring revenue and customer activities.
- Generate revenue and other reports as needed and track performance throughout the year.
- Coordinate and build relationships with Management, Marketing, Asset Optimization, Measurement, Rates, Regulatory Affairs, Transportation and Storage Services, Legal, Contract Services, Financial Planning, and Accounting.
- Interact with Financial Planning and Accounting regarding forecasting, revenue reporting, and explanations of revenue variances.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
