About The Position

Requirements

• At least six months of experience working in a veterinary hospital as a veterinary assistant.
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills.
• Experience with safe patient restraint.
• Excellent client service skills.
• Experience with phlebotomy and catheter placement.
• Knowledge of radiology safety and proper technique.
• A solid foundation of knowledge of common veterinary medications.
• Working knowledge of veterinary terminology.
• Strong verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Dedication to a positive, respectful, and uplifting hospital culture, and willingness to contribute to hospital operations and daily duties.
• Ability to adapt to individual patient needs and support patients and their families.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and customers with kindness and respect, check in patients, and provide introductory information to new clients.
• Collect patient histories, vital signs, and weights; record the information in the chart and communicate it to the veterinarian.
• Work with client service representatives and other departments to find appropriate solutions.
• Collect payment for services rendered.
• Keep the reception area and examination rooms clean, stocked, and odor-free; clean up pet accidents in the waiting room.
• Verify that client information is current and accurate in the system.
• Answer and transfer calls on a multi-line telephone professionally, check voicemail, take messages when appropriate, and record client or referring veterinarian callbacks in EzyVet.
• Discharge surgical patients and answer questions about procedures, medications, and aftercare.
• Assist with patient restraint, blood draws, and radiology.
• Calculate and fill prescriptions according to veterinarians’ instructions.
• Email home-care instructions, referral reports, and medical notes to referring veterinarians.
• Gather discharge forms and go-home items, and verify invoices and instructions before discharge.
• Scan faxed laboratory results into patient records and email copies to the appropriate veterinarian.
• Scan referring veterinarian records, forms, laboratory results, and other documents into patient files.
• Maintain patient files by placing client and referring veterinarian correspondence, ICU sheets, faxed records, and other documents in chronological order.
• Maintain information regarding no-shows, rescheduled appointments, and canceled appointments.
• Clean and stock the client restroom as needed or alert the custodian when assistance is needed.
• Operate office equipment including a postage scale, fax machine, computer, printer, photocopier, credit card machine, and scanner.
