About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician to provide nursing care for hospitalized patients in a fast-paced emergency and specialty veterinary setting. The Nursing department requires constant patient supervision to ensure treatment plans are carried out. The role involves identifying signs of patient distress, responding appropriately, performing phlebotomy and placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery, and supporting client follow-up and education.

The proposed schedule is three 12-hour shifts, with days to be determined. The technician works with the patient care team and veterinarians to assess patients, carry out treatment plans, monitor hospitalized patients, and communicate with clients. Employment is contingent on passing a drug screen and background check.

Requirements

• Prior veterinary experience is required.
• Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
• Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Employment is dependent upon passing a drug screen and background check.

Nice To Haves

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Previous nursing or critical care experience desired.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
• Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist the veterinarian with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
