About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Valid driver's license in the individual's state of residence.
• Must have a vehicle for job-related duties, meetings, seminars, and training.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual ability, with Spanish or Creole preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
• Pennsylvania Instructional Certificate.
• Experience accessing regional support services.
• One to three years of previous experience as a teacher, caseworker, or in another role involving direct services to children and young adults.
• Working knowledge of the Migrant Education Program and its services.

Responsibilities

• Maintain working knowledge of guidelines, regulations, and procedures relevant to the Migrant Education Program.
• Develop and maintain understanding of educational initiatives, developmentally appropriate programs, government and social services, parental involvement activities, and multicultural awareness issues relevant to migrant students.
• Provide instructional support and intervention for students through schools, homes, and appropriate service agencies.
• Maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, funding agents, and IU5 staff.
• Advocate for the Migrant Education Program and migrant students by explaining program components to parents, schools, government, social service agencies, and other appropriate community agencies.
• Maintain required records and documentation accurately.
• Encourage and track migrant children ages 3 through 21 in relation to attendance, class performance, testing gains, progress toward graduation, and kindergarten readiness.
• Help plan, conduct, and evaluate the summer school program and summer in-home program.
• Regularly assess student accomplishments and progress, provide required reports, and collaborate with appropriate agencies on issues and concerns.
• Maintain effective communication and provide regular program updates to the Supervisor of School Improvement Services - Federal and State Programs.
• Involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way in planning, implementing, and evaluating the Migrant Education Program.
• Coordinate and plan at least four parent meetings per year with local Parent Advisory Council officers.
• Meet with the local Parent Advisory Council every other month.
• Attend statewide Parent Advisory Council meetings one to two times per year.
• Communicate with other migrant education parent specialists and the migrant education central office through calls, meetings, and mailings.
• Provide oral or written interpretation and translation for parents, staff, and school personnel as a supplemental service when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with federal, state, and local laws and guidelines; adapt to change; collect, document, and report data accurately; meet program responsibilities; communicate effectively; and build collaborative relationships.
