About The Position

Requirements

• BLS certification.
• Kaweah Health-approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire or transfer.
• Enrollment in an accredited RN program; ASN students must have completed the third semester, or BSN students must have completed the fourth semester.
• Submit an updated transcript to HR each term and notify the Manager and HR of changes in nursing program enrollment.
• Participation in an approved Work Study Program affiliated with the school of nursing, or current Kaweah Health employment while enrolled in an eligible Kaweah Health/Unitek nursing program practice and academic partnership; the partnership must not be for academic credit.
• Have a validated Skills Checklist available while working as an SNI and perform validated skills only within applicable supervision requirements.
• Keep all required certifications current.
• Communicate effectively and provide care appropriate to the needs of patients and families served.

Nice To Haves

• Current California Certified Nursing Assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate and communicate with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
• Work with the RN to formulate the plan of care and involve patients in decisions about care and service delivery.
• Maintain a validated Skills Checklist and perform skills only after validation by the nursing school in conjunction with the KH RN preceptor.
• Work under a KH RN preceptor and perform basic bedside care and selected nursing procedures as delegated by the RN.
• Report changes in patients’ conditions, patient or family needs and concerns, activity changes, complaints, and problems to licensed staff.
• Answer assigned patient call lights within two minutes; greet patients and family professionally and identify self by name and job category.
• Assist patients with assigned needs, including toileting, meals, snacks, water pitchers, activities of daily living, and room orientation.
• Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Collect and record intake and output, height, weight, and vital signs as delegated; collect respiratory rate by direct observation.
• Document care in the EMR as soon as possible after it is provided.
• Collect, label, and deliver specimens; report variations in output to the RN.
• Assist with emergency care, including crash cart checks, CPR, and responding to Code Blue.
• Provide post-mortem care and assist with transporting bodies to the morgue.
• Handle patients’ personal property carefully and maintain a clean, safe, and neat patient environment.
• Maintain confidentiality, follow safety and infection-control policies and procedures, perform tasks safely, and keep required certifications current.
• Provide care appropriate to the population served, taking account of patients’ and families’ cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, age, growth, and developmental needs.
• Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with HR.107 and wear a watch with timing capabilities, such as a seconds hand or stopwatch.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
