About The Position

The Student Nurse Intern is an experienced student team member in the final semester of an accredited nursing program, joining Stormont Vail Health to bridge the transition from student to Registered Nurse. Interns typically work with a nurse preceptor and are part of the care delivery team under the direction of a Registered Nurse, providing delegated direct patient care, including non-sterile procedures. They help maintain a safe environment, complete assigned work, monitor patients for changes in condition, and report changes to the RN or LPN. The intern spends most of their time with an RN preceptor observing direct patient care and may perform expanded skills only under the preceptor’s direct supervision. The role supports coordinated, evidence-based care, infection prevention, patient safety, effective communication, patient advocacy, and respectful, inclusive professional relationships. The position is patient-facing and performed on-site, with no remote work, supervisory responsibility, or budget responsibility.
