The Nurse Internship is a paid, skill-based clinical role designed to bridge nursing education and professional practice through RN preceptorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and progressive skill development. Nurse interns gain hands-on clinical experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). The role offers individualized placement within hospital and ambulatory care settings so students can explore clinical specialties while building confidence, competence, and professional identity. Interns must function within an established student scope of practice, follow facility policies, and comply with Joint Commission requirements and applicable federal, state, and local regulations or accrediting agencies. The internship runs from June 7 through August 13, 2027. Interns may have the opportunity to continue as Senior Nurse Interns during the following fall and/or spring semesters based on performance and availability. The position pays $22 per hour and is temporary, is not eligible for benefits, and may involve 32–40 hours per week, up to 400 hours for the summer. Students with full- or part-time summer class loads will have adjusted hour requirements and must be able to commit to 32 hours every two weeks. The role includes rotating day, night, and weekend shifts. Summer interns may be able to continue during the school year in a PRN capacity as Senior Interns, subject to limited space.
