The Nurse Internship is a paid, skill-based clinical role designed to bridge nursing education and professional practice through RN preceptorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and progressive skill development. Nurse interns gain hands-on clinical experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Individualized placements in hospital and ambulatory care settings allow students to explore clinical specialties while building confidence, competence, and professional identity. Interns work within an established student scope of practice, follow facility policies, and comply with Joint Commission requirements and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Interns provide support in routine and technical aspects of nursing care for patients of all ages. The internship runs June 7 through August 13, 2027, in the Duluth Superior area. Interns must commit to 32–40 hours per week, up to 400 hours for the summer. Students taking summer classes may have adjusted hour requirements and must commit to 32 hours every two weeks. Summer interns may be able to continue during the following fall and/or spring semesters as Senior Nurse Interns in a PRN capacity, depending on performance, availability, and space. This is a temporary status position and is not eligible for benefits. The position has rotating shifts, with start times varying among 0700, 1500, and 2300 and end times varying among 1530, 2330, and 0730. Weekend work is required; holidays and call are not required. Wage is $22 per hour.
