Student Nurse Intern-Emergency-ED

Kaweah Health•Visalia, CA

About The Position

The Student Nurse Intern (SNI) works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing care. In partnership with the RN, the SNI contributes to holistic care and advocates for patients and families. The position is in the Emergency-ED department and is a 12-hour night shift. While school is in session, the SNI may perform approved functions and selected nursing procedures under the supervision of a Kaweah Health RN preceptor, after the relevant skills have been validated by the school of nursing and preceptor. Some duties, including medication administration, initiating or adjusting intravenous therapy, and taking physician orders, require an RN to be present. After completing Kaweah Health position- and unit-specific competencies, the SNI may perform specified support duties during both instructional and non-instructional days. The SNI supports patient care by communicating changes and concerns to licensed staff, assisting with activities of daily living and patient needs, documenting care, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and helping nursing staff with tasks delegated by the RN. The role requires maintaining current certifications and following applicable policies, safety practices, infection-control procedures, and professional appearance guidelines.
