About The Position

Flip builds AI voice agents that handle millions of real customer conversations for some of the biggest brands, healthcare providers, and transportation companies in the world. We are a low-ego team focused on solving hard problems quickly. Our engineering team operates at a scale rarely seen, handling millions of live phone calls with an AI system. We operate on first principles, prioritizing customer value and enabling direct lines from keyboard to production. Agentic development has changed our workflow, but experience remains crucial for safe and effective production-level work. We value builders with experience who can make new speeds safe, focusing more on product building and less on stack experience or corporate pedigree. We maintain a lean team with a high bar, providing real support and resources for builders to express themselves. Our engineers often report being able to accomplish more at Flip than at previous companies due to deep industry expertise and ruthless execution.

Requirements

  • Real production experience: have built and owned systems where failure had consequences.
  • Judgment that survives contact with production.
  • Low ego, high execution: own outcomes, not tickets.
  • Customer obsession: measure yourself by what the customer got.
  • Experience in agentic development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Python, MongoDB, AWS, Twilio, Datadog, Snowflake, and Omni.

Responsibilities

  • Building complex multi-step customer workflows and deep integrations into the contact center and industries we serve (order systems, healthcare workflows, logistics).
  • Developing the orchestration layer for agents, including routing, state management, and tool usage.
  • Managing low-latency model serving at production scale, including hosting our own models.
  • Handling telephony, observability, and deployment infrastructure for live calls.
  • Collaborating with customers to understand problems and build solutions.
  • Working on backend systems.
  • Potentially mentoring or leading other engineers as the team grows.
  • Contributing to the development of chat modalities in addition to voice agents.
