About The Position

AECOM Hunt is hiring a senior-level Construction Safety, Health & Environment Manager to support a large, complex aviation construction project in Chicago. The role leads and oversees project safety, health, and environmental activities and requires extensive construction safety leadership experience, preferably on major aviation, infrastructure, or other large-scale construction projects. The position assists the ES&H Director in formulating and administering environmental, safety, and health policies and programs for home-office and field operations. It supports supervision of ES&H activities and selection of project personnel, and helps plan and conduct training. The role is responsible for ES&H policy, procedures, inspections, regulatory compliance, and incident investigations. It may represent the company on technical and professional committees and assist with local, state, federal, and industrial standards, codes, or regulatory formation. This is an onsite construction-field role, not hybrid or remote. Work takes place primarily on active job sites, where employees may encounter heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, changing weather, electrical risks, and moderate-to-high noise. Personal protective equipment may be required. Relocation is available. Candidates who receive an offer must pass a pre-employment substance-abuse test; client-site security screening, which may include SWAC and/or SIDA screening and fingerprinting, is a condition of continued employment. Newly hired employees must attend in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or a similar curriculum, plus 10 years of construction safety management experience; demonstrated equivalency and/or education may also qualify.
  • At least 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Commercial construction safety management experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of construction field work, including mobility across active construction zones and occasional unassisted lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a pre-employment substance-abuse test if offered the position.
  • Must pass required client-site security screening, which may include SWAC and/or SIDA screening and fingerprinting, as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must attend in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field such as Engineering.
  • Experience with regulated compliance, including OSHA standards, EPA requirements, and DOT requirements.
  • Proficiency in documentation procedures for incidents, audits, and training.
  • Experience in risk assessment and mitigation, safety program development, continuous improvement, and incident investigation.
  • Experience on large-scale construction projects valued at $50 million or more.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety training programs.
  • Safety team leadership experience.
  • Construction safety leadership experience supporting major aviation, infrastructure, or other large-scale/mega construction projects.
