About The Position

Pagosa Springs Medical Center is seeking an experienced Med Surg RN to provide observation and/or inpatient care to patients assigned to the Med Surg Unit. The RN is responsible for assessing and prioritizing patient care, administering nursing care and procedures, monitoring and reassessing patients, documenting assessments and changes in condition, educating patients and families, collaborating with providers, and supporting continuity of care to help prevent readmission.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience required.
  • Previous traveler experience required.
  • Cerner EHR/EMR experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program required.
  • Current Colorado RN license, or ability to obtain required licensure, in good standing.
  • Current AHA BLS certification required.
  • Current ACLS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months.
  • Current PALS certification required or completion at next available course within 3 months.
  • Basic computer skills and electronic health record experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides patient care within the RN scope of practice and in accordance with physician/provider orders.
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments, care planning, nursing interventions, reassessments, and evaluation of care provided.
  • Monitors patients for changes in condition and reports abnormal findings to the appropriate provider.
  • Administers medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely.
  • Operates infusion pumps and documents accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Completes required Cerner documentation in accordance with competencies, training, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and takes appropriate action when needed.
  • Provides patient and family education related to disease process, treatment plans, medications, pain management, wound care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
  • Follows infection prevention practices, universal precautions, and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and protects patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Collaborates with providers, staff, and other departments to support interdisciplinary patient care.
  • Serves as a mentor to other nursing staff and supports continuous learning.
