About The Position

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred, such as recreational, music, or art therapy, or occupational therapy.
• At least one year of experience in a field relevant to the therapy specialty area, or a combination of education and experience, is preferred.
• Must obtain and maintain approved CPR certification and successfully complete Management of Aggressive Behavior training, including restraint and seclusion policies, before assuming patient care responsibility.
• Excellent communication, assessment, evaluation, and interpretation skills.
• Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment; flexibility; and an understanding of, or ability to understand, DSMIIIR methodology.
• Advanced knowledge and clinical skills in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health, and knowledge of patient rights and laws pertaining to mental health.
• Basic PC skills, including working with Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and the ability to type at least 30 words per minute.
• Excellent communication and listening skills, with a pleasant demeanor that encourages and engages others.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize, with strong time-management skills.
• Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and physical, and provide positive employment references.
• With or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to perform the physical demands described in the posting, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Healthcare and inpatient psychiatric experience is preferred.
• Teaching or training experience is a plus.
• Certification or registration is preferred; no license is required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in formulating patient treatment plans, including treatment goals and objectives.
• Monitor and document patient progress toward treatment goals and objectives in group notes and through individual and family sessions.
• Consult with doctors, case managers, and nursing staff as needed to provide quality patient care.
• Contact outpatient treatment providers as needed.
• Conduct individual therapy with patients.
• Provide process-oriented group therapies and conduct educational or other didactic groups as assigned.
• Report patient issues to community and/or state agencies when required by law.
• Represent the hospital in legal proceedings as required.
• Comply with the facility’s safety, infection control, and security programs.
• Support facility internal and external customer service standards and uphold the organization’s ethics and customer service standards.
• Perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the hospital.
