About The Position
This course focuses on Legal Translation specialization, assessing needs and producing fit-for-purpose documents in a specialized sub-field. It involves identifying, evaluating, and using domain-specific resources for knowledge acquisition and text production, with and without computer tools. The course may be taken twice in different subject fields. The instructor will deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French. Responsibilities include building and maintaining a course site in the university’s learning management system, integrating relevant theoretical, conceptual, and terminological content in Canadian Law with translation instruction, selecting appropriate source texts, providing detailed feedback on translation exercises, integrating technological tools, and coordinating with the Chair/Program Coordinator.
Requirements
- Professional-level language skills in English (active) and French (passive).
- Master’s degree in Translation or Translation Studies, membership in a recognized association or order of professional translators in the French to English language combination, and/or equivalent academic and professional experience.
- Extensive professional experience as a French to English legal translator in a Canadian context.

Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and manage classroom activities and assessments mainly in English, occasionally in French.

- Select source texts appropriate to the levels of students and course learning outcomes.
- Provide detailed feedback and suggestions in translation-oriented exercises and assessments to help students develop translation and critical thinking skills.
- Integrate discussions of and/or exercises with appropriate technological tools in the course content, with reference to selected technologies and resources provided by the School.
- Coordinate with the Chair/Program Coordinator and colleagues to maintain program learning outcomes and coherence, while maintaining academic freedom.
