About The Position

Requirements

• Considerable knowledge of a variety of microbiology and laboratory procedures with an emphasis on polymerase chain reactions.
• General safety procedures necessary in a clinical laboratory.
• Ability to work with technical equipment, especially molecular diagnostic equipment.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency to include basic office software and laboratory information management systems.
• Sound analytical skills.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
• Proven ability to follow oral and written directions with precision and accuracy.
• Ability to develop logical conclusions.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Testing formats require precision, manual dexterity and visual acuity.
• HS Diploma/GED required.

Nice To Haves

• Current or recent clinical and/or diagnostic veterinary or human medical microbiology, laboratory quality control, or regulatory experience.
• Experience working ISO 17025 or similar laboratory quality management system.
• A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include knowledge of Microbiology, Biology, or a closely related scientific field that is supplemented with work in a clinical microbiology laboratory.
• Regulatory experience in animal health technology including FDA/IMS milk testing, serology, bacteriology, parasitology and mycology.

Responsibilities

• Process and complete molecular testing on samples submitted for diagnostic and regulatory purposes.
• Perform large numbers of molecular and microbiological tests for the poultry and livestock industries.
• Perform real-time polymerase chain reactions testing using the ABI 7500 and QuantStudio PCR systems.
• Process specimens from external clients and necropsies.
• Perform biochemical evaluation of microorganisms isolated from submissions and perform Minimum Inhibitory Concentration reports.
• Prepare media according to testing needs.
• Enter results into an automated Laboratory Information System.
• Assist with other related laboratory procedures as needed.
• Cross-train in serology, dairy microbiology and diagnostic bacteriology.
