About The Position

This is an Entry-level position with the goal of becoming a certified Treatment Plant Operator. Under direct supervision, the incumbent learns and performs responsible technical and skilled work in the operation and minor maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and related facilities for the City Water Reclamation Department. The role reports to the Chief Operator.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school, supplemented by college-level course work in chemistry, biology, math, or related courses
  • 1 years of experience in an industrial environment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must actively pursue both formal and on-the-job training, as related to the wastewater field
  • within eighteen months of date of hire, must obtain a Class ā€œCā€ License as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator from the State of Florida, Department of Environmental Protection.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting lab samples; obtaining training and learning required analyses and tests; checking filter, chlorinators, various machines and reading meters, gauges and dials.
  • Responsible for maintaining records of readings and making adjustments and repairs to equipment as required.
  • Independent judgment, initiative is required in making sound decisions, with direction from the lead operator or other certified operators.
  • Monitors and maintains all plant processes, equipment and controls to ensure efficient operation of the plant and compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations.
  • As directed by the Lead Operator, monitors process variables, making changes, as determined by flow, controls, instrumentation analysis, calculations, and visual observations; check filters, chlorinators and chemical feed discharges; reads meters, gauges and dials, and maintains reports of readings.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair of plant equipment, including the lubrication of motors and pumps.
  • Obtains wastewater samples at various stages of the treatment process and submits to laboratory for analysis.
  • Maintains general cleanliness of the plant and performs various grounds keeping tasks such as mowing grass, weeding, and edging.
  • Monitors and participates in shutdown and start-ups of equipment as directed.
  • Receives complaints and/or inquiries from Utilities customers and/or the general public pertaining to utilities and personnel activities, policies, procedures, etc., and directs such maintenance work as warranted by customer inquiry or complaint.
  • Prepares and submits required records and reports as directed by Lead Operator.
  • Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with plant personnel.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Preforms other related work as required.
