About The Position

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center, demonstrating behavior consistent with core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee will support the strategic plan and participate in performance improvement/patient safety activities. The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The PCA I provides basic patient care including data collection, personal hygiene, and assistance with activities of daily living such as ambulating, toileting, and feeding. PCA I's perform assigned tasks, facilitate departmental/unit flow activities, and maintain a safe, clean environment. They utilize effective communication and document patient care data within their defined scope of practice, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles, cultural differences, and psychosocial/spiritual needs. The PCA I collaborates with other healthcare team members to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery and achieve desired patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer knowledge preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent Acute Care experience preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or minimum of one (1) year nursing assistant experience or currently enrolled in Nursing Program with successful completion of at least (1) semester preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently perform assigned duties.
  • Follows directions and communicates with the Registered Nurse and other members of the Healthcare Team in an organized, clear and timely manner.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
  • Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
  • Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job specific competencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cleaning policies and adheres to all manufacturer recommendations for cleaning of equipment.
  • Demonstrates proper body mechanics when moving patient stretchers and beds.
  • Ability to be at work and be on time.
  • Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
