The UW Health Nursing Assistant Apprenticeship Program gives students experience working in a hospital setting and prepares them to obtain Nursing Assistant certification through the State of Wisconsin. The program begins February 1, 2027. Apprentices participate in direct patient-care tasks, processes, and procedures as part of a patient-care team, including helping patients with activities of daily living, transporting patients, and stocking supplies. They are expected to demonstrate good interpersonal skills when interacting with hospital staff, visitors, patients, and family members. After successfully completing the program and being placed on the registry, participants will be interviewed and may transfer to hospital units with available Nursing Assistant positions. The role is full time, 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours may vary based on program needs. Starting pay is $18.25 per hour. Applicants must submit a resume and the Nursing Assistant Application Form; the posting states that applications are open from October 26, 2026, through November 9, 2026.
