About The Position
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care on a 25-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit specializing in Neuro care. The unit cares for patients with a range of medical and surgical needs, including telemetry monitoring, stroke recovery, and stable neurological deficits. Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive. The typical nurse-patient ratio is 1:5–6. The unit emphasizes excellent patient care, responsiveness, teamwork, hourly rounding, and patient engagement. Nurses should be compassionate, friendly, and able to manage a fast-paced setting with frequent admissions and discharges. Staff wear navy blue scrubs; artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas. The role includes two days of unit-specific orientation and opportunities for ongoing training and skill enhancement.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of MedSurg or Telemetry nursing experience.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- NIHSS certification.
- A valid driver's license.
- No pending license or background issues.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including monitoring vital signs and administering medications.
- Titrate drips, including heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine, as needed.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to create and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families about care and treatment options.
- Conduct routine patient assessments and document care.
- Follow safety protocols and infection-control regulations.
- Participate in hourly rounding and support patient engagement.
- Work every other weekend; additional weekend shifts may be required.
- Work 2–3 holidays between Thanksgiving and New Years.
- Float to other medical-surgical areas with MedSurg patients as needed.
